Woody Perfumes
The wood family includes scents that are sharp and opulent, fragrance notes coming from woody materials (trees mostly, as well as some bushes -such as patchouli- or a few grasses -such as vetiver), smells could be : Sharp, Opulent, Powdery, Warm, Smoky.
Woody notes are popular all year round, but are particularly suited to the colder months for their earthy, rich facets. These are fragrances with notes reminiscent of a forest, earth, and trees.
Sandalwood : balsamic, sweet
Cedarwood : dry, explosive
Vetiver : rich, earthy, smoky
Patchouli : earthy, woody, musky
Pine : fresh, green forest, outdoor atmosphere
Birch : smoky, leather, deep, warm

If naturally extracted, oud’s scent can also vary depending on the species of aquilaria tree it is extracted from: some resins have a sweeter aroma, while others are smokier and more balsamic, with their character developing as they dry down. Synthetic ouds also have a different scent profile: they tend to be less animalic than their natural counterparts, and typically slightly sweeter and nuttier.
